In the wake of heavy to very precipitation and rise in water levels in various rivers, Madhya Pradesh has been reeling under a flood situation Climate change since June 25,2024.

As per the Climate change by July 17, a total of 16 districts and49 revenue circles have been reeling under flood waters including Biswanath,Cachar,Dhemaji,Dhubri, Dibrugarh,Goalpara,Golaghat,Hailakandi,Kamrup,Kamrup MetroKarimganj,Majuli,Morigaon,Nagaon,Nalbariand Sivasagar.

In the last 24 hours, IMD recorded highest rainfall in different districts has been –Cachar (120 mm), Tinsukia (80.0) and average rainfall is about 21.1mm using AWS machine data. CWC bulletin said that Brahmaputra and two of its tributaries are currently flowing above the danger level.

So far one human life was lost in last 24 hours and with this number of casualty gone up at 113 for the current flood season.

According to the Central Water Commission (CWC) bulletin, rivers Kwan, Rapt and Buhari Rapt are flowing above their danger levels in various districts of the state.

To date the Climate change flood has claimed around 80 human lives.

Ten persons died in rain-related incidents in the past 24 hours, with three each killed either side when struck by lightning at different places on Moradabad and Gorakhpur districts. Lalitpur, GhazipurOne person was washed away after heavy rains swept his vehicle into a nullah following flash floods.

Of these, 13 districts of the state are flood-affected – Lakhimpur Khiri, Kushalnagara, Shahjahanpur, Burbank, Siddharth agar, Ballia Gorakhpur Unnao Deloria Hardon Ajodhya Butuan and Maharajan.

The flood-affected 413 villages and 338,082 people in the past two days.

The current flood has left 1,625 villages inundated with a population of 1,522778 and affected the standing crop area in 324528 hectares.

In only ten days, over 11.962 people have been safely relocated and more than 11000 highly affected stranded persons rescued

A total of 804 shelter homes were established in the state, and currently 1,365 people have been accommodated there after displacement.

In Ballia, erosion 180 families and washing away of few settlement’s were affected. Mass awareness had been raised, leaflets distributed.

KERALA

The heavy rains which have been pounding some districts since last couple of days, worst affected the hilly areas in northern part with some parts receiving as much 24.5 CMS and more rain was forecast for next five days leading to closures on Friday amid the ongoing monsoon fury turning into a flood like situation disrupting normal life. Flooding, uprooting of trees and minor landslides were reported in several parts of the northern Kerala districts.

Heavy rain has been wreaking havoc in the hilly areas of Wayanad district. A total of 29 houses have been partially damaged and about 1002 people moved to26 relief camps. Besides, the water levels of rivers flowing in the region has also increased.

As heavy rains lashed many parts of central and northern Kerala on Wednesday, claiming three lives including a one-year-old girl in Pathanamthitta district since Tuesday night.

The third day in a row saw Ernakulam district thrashed by rain and winds across the district. The fire destroyed two houses and partially damaged 71 residences. But even though the water of Parihar River has receded, it did heavy impacts due to rains.

The flood relief camp functioning at Kuttikkattukara Government UPS in Paravoor taluk was closed as all the 54 inmates have returned to their homes on Wednesday evening following a receding of water.

The flood waters, which inundated Manikandanchal bridge linking the tribal hamlets of Kutampuzha forest with outside world on Tuesday receded and traffic was restored in that area. But heavy rainfall on Wednesday morning caused waterlogging in many parts of Kochi city.

Tree branches fell on power lines, setting fire to electric posts which disrupted electricity supply.

In Kottayam district, 45 persons were shifted to camps as downpour continued throughout past midnight on Tuesday.

KARNATAKA

Heavy rains battered Sakleshpur taluk in Hassan district once again and there are reports of landslides on the Shiradi Ghat stretch. This has gravely affected the vehicular movement on the highway and a large number of vehicles are reportedly stranded.

Police are directing traffic away from the sections of road that have been blocked off.

TAMIL NADU

Forty-eight residents from the low-lying areas of Iruvayal and Chemundi in Gudulu were evacuated to a temporary relief camp at Thorapalli Government Residential School on Wednesday morning.

At Pandalid, two houses were partially damaged due to rain and in Udhagamandalam taluk four huts have suffered partial damages. Also, a land slip occurred along the roadside at Ithala in Kunde Taluk.

Flight operations and office work were affected by the heavy rains that led to waterlogging at Chennai Airport IN Kodaikanal, Din Digul district, over 6,000 power connections disrupted following strong win sync on Monday.
